My Black is Beautiful
This is a collaborative work made with the students of Boys and Girls High-school in Brooklyn and the Staff of Good Shepherd Services. As their photography and video instructor, I worked with them to document the schools and neighborhood day to day. At the same time, we would highlight the history, the pride and joy of the African American identity and specifically the community in Bedstuy.
The project included conservatories, museum visits, community service, neighborhood walks, music painting, photography and video. The project was awarded the Excellence Prize in the NYC Community School Video Contest by the Museum of the Moving Image.
This is a 5 min cut of the larger documentary still in process.
Staff and Students at Boys and Girls Highschool at Bedstuy, Brooklyn collaborate to create the My Black is Beautiful Campaign. An initiative that started because of Black History Month but has continued with the intention to celebrate culture, history, and self-love. Using video, photography, music, art and community service we had engaged in conversations around social justice and community. 5 min segment. work in progress
